Had a talk with a managing director at a local investment consulting firm.
Here are the nuggets:
1. the industry has relatively low barriers to entry
2. people working in this industry is not as sharp as those in investment management due to the lower pays
3. broad knowledge required, as opposed to expertise in certain industry which is commonly required of an equity research analyst
4. CFA is an extremely important credential
