Today I came by the shocking news that the CFO of my previous employer was fired. He is literally the smartest people I have ever seen. He exhibits a very quick and incisive understanding of things - whatever you are discussing with him, he understands. And he is humble, is not too self-effacing. His kind of intelligence and empathy are rare - not the usual "quick and understanding." When he speaks, the counter-party is often left in awe, wondering how come one complex idea can be dissected in such an elegant and simple way. And he also knows how to express and articulate.
But he is fired, as capable as he has always been. He devoted the prime time of his career to a smaller firm, brought it up to the highest professional standard, helped it weathering the most difficult times, accepted lower benefits for a seemingly more promising future. However, just as he is about to see the light, he is fired.
Let this be a lesson for all of us: stay hungry, and keep your options open. Nothing is forever.
